The Smokey Jack Observatory is a beautiful and tremendous result of the Dark Skies Initiative here in Westcliffe, Co that seeks to bring the community together to voluntarily work to eliminate light pollution and preserve our night skies as a valuable asset. The Westcliffe and Silver Cliff area is now the highest certified Dark Sky community, and one of only 9 worldwide, including the only one in Colorado.

Highly recommended and definitely one of the *for sure, must do* activities in the Wet Mountain Valley!

Very interesting

We went for the International Observe the Moon Night event at the observatory and it was spectacular! We were able to view the waxing quarter moon, a number of planets, a clear bright Milky Way, and even a globular star cluster, all of which were breathtaking! Also, the immense knowledge of the people involved with the observatory was fantastic as they educated the crowd on astronomy.
